Leestown Boasts P.E. Teacher of the Year

KYSHAPE recently saluted Leestown’s Jenny Mock as its 2026 Middle School Physical Education Teacher of the Year. Colleagues congratulated her and other state-level award winners during the group’s sixth annual summer conference for health and P.E. educators. This year’s theme was “Teach with Intention. Lead with Impact.”

Beyond the gym, Mock has demonstrated leadership at Leestown through schoolwide initiatives, student engagement efforts, and service to the profession. Her commitment to helping students develop physically, socially, and emotionally through movement has made a lasting impact on her students and school community. 

Mock's favorite part of her job is watching her students learn vital lessons about kindness, inclusivity, compassion, conflict resolution, and communication. “P.E. is crucial for helping middle schoolers understand their bodies and teaching them how to move them in fun, constructive ways,” she said. “Regular physical activity not only builds coordination and muscle, but creates opportunities for healthy socialization and cooperation – a lifelong skill that everyone needs!”

A native of Kentucky, Mock earned a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology & Health Promotion at University of Kentucky and a master’s in Teacher Leadership in Sport & P.E. at the University of the Cumberlands, and she is working on her Ed.S Principal degree. She joined Fayette County Public Schools in 2012 and has taught P.E. at Leestown since 2016. Additionally, Mock serves as PBIS teacher coach, sponsor of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes club, and secretary for the SBDM Council.

KYSHAPE is the state affiliate of SHAPE America. Mock is now in the running for a national award, and those honorees will be celebrated in spring 2027.
