John Moore to Take Helm at Leestown Middle

John Moore to Take Helm at Leestown Middle

Fayette County Public Schools has announced John Moore as the new principal of Leestown Middle School, effective July 1. Moore, who has led Ashland Elementary for five years, brings 13 total years of dedicated experience with FCPS, and he looks forward to next partnering with the Leestown community to build student-focused opportunities that inspire high achievement.

“John Moore is a highly respected leader in FCPS and will bring his passion for educating students to Leestown. I expect great things will happen for students and staff,” said Superintendent Demetrus Liggins.

Prior to his principalship at Ashland, Moore was a classroom teacher at Booker T. Washington Elementary, where he took on numerous leadership responsibilities. He also worked at Coventry Oak Elementary, where he was a Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (PBIS) coach and later an administrative dean. In addition, Moore has served as a Safe Crisis Management trainer for FCPS since 2019.

Moore has a History degree from the University of Louisville and two master's degrees: one in Education from Midway College, where he earned dual certification in K-12 Learning Behavior Disorders and 5-9 Social Studies, and another in School Leadership from Georgetown College.

He will take over at Leestown after Principal Joe Gibson, who is retiring.

“Replacing a high-performing, successful principal like Mr. Gibson is not an easy feat, but Mr. Moore can unequivocally step into the principal role and continue the tradition of excellence that is firmly established at Leestown. I’m excited for the opportunity to work with and learn from Mr. Moore in the upcoming years,” said Chief School Leadership Officer Erika Bowles.
